My gran used to have a saying when something was just so ridiculous that it was hard to believe. She’d say “Well that just beggars belief!”
I thought of her today when I read this post about a young woman who lost her job on Facebook. I don’t mean she just said something stupid on Facebook and then got called in to the boss’s office the next day … I mean she literally got fired right there on Facebook! The exchange is below the fold – warning: choice language is used!
Moral of this story: Don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t be happy for anyone to read.

I have no idea why people don’t learn. The cases of getting in trouble and losing one’s job, due to unwise use of social media, were publicized enough. I’m not delusional to think this is the last one, but shouldn’t there be fewer cases of online stupidity, as the public gets educated about social media? It always makes me wonder…
